USAA Helps Make Home Makeover Dreams Come True

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" rebuilds the home of a National Guard hero whose home was damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

On Sunday March 21, at 7 p.m. (CT), USAA is proud to participate with ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" to help provide a new start for Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Sherman Heathcock and his family of five.

In this episode, host Ty Pennington and a team of designers travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., to rebuild Heathcock's home while he and his family are on vacation in Disney World. Designers Michael Moloney, John Littlefield and Paige Hemmis, along with community volunteers and actor Christian Slater, the celebrity volunteer for "Get On the Bus," work on the project.

Heathcock, a devoted husband and father who re-enlisted in the National Guard following 9/11, has served two tours of duty in Iraq, where he leads squads in combat missions. When he's home, Heathcock works several jobs, which leaves little time to repair the devastating damage left by Hurricane Katrina. On this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," Pennington and the designers have the opportunity to give back to this soldier who has given so much to his country and his community.

Heathcock, 39, and his wife Gina, 40, are working hard to save enough money to provide a college education for their three children: Annie, 12; Gary, 10; and Tessa, 7. In addition to his National Guard duties, Heathcock works as a sheriff's deputy, a SWAT team leader, a grocery store security guard and a neighborhood watch group organizer. He also volunteers his time to provide security for his kids' school and coach his son's football and baseball teams while Gina works part-time as a paralegal. During Heathcock's first tour in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina sent several large trees crashing through the family's property and severely damaging the home. While tackling the long list of repairs during her husband's absence, Gina fell victim to a re-roofing scam. The rotting ceilings and damaged foundation are crumbling around them. With Sherman currently serving in Iraq, his wife and kids are worried about losing the battle in their own home.

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It is executive-produced by Anthony Dominici. David Goldberg is Chairman, Endemol North America. For more information on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," visit ABC.com
